When The Levees Broke
Last night was the first half of the new HBO documentary "When The Levees Broke" directed by Spike Lee. Tonight they play the second half and my initial reaction to watching it is complete and total rage. With everything that has been said and written about how the government so egrigiously dropped the ball, I still think it should be more of an issue with the American people than it is. Our government left people to die for almost a week. It renders me almost speechless.
I think one gripe that some will have with this doc is how blatantly race plays a factor. Obviously it's a black director and the majority of the victims of Katrina were as well. But guess what? That is what it's about. People hate talking about race because they're nervous they might say something that sounds insensitive. Well, Spike took the gloves off I think. He is making you call it like you see it. And its bad. If this hurricane struck a lily white neighborhood or city, the government's response would have been nice and swift. I fully believe that.
